Greatway (/greatway/ [Translation Unavailable]) is a subtropical Town located in Nte̜chyhyiōn Kingdom, Geea County, within the Kingdom of Helsteria.

The name Greatway is derived from the Sylvin language, as Greatway was founded by Mrirrui Maxwell, who was culturaly Sylvin.

Climate

Greatway has a yearly average temperature of 29°C (84°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a hot 33°C (91°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a pleasant 25°C (77°F). Greatway receives an average of 98 cm/y (38 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the spring. Greatway covers an area of nearly 4 km2 (1 mi2), and an average elevation of 9666 m (-11237 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Greatway was founded durring the late 11th century, by Mrirrui Maxwell. The establishment of Greatway was only bairly constructed. The sheer number of problems with its founding were enough to make several of the backers funding Greatway's construction back out of the project. Mrirrui Maxwell pushed on reguardles, and Greatway was finished, but starts off as a terible place to live.

Greatway was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the late 11th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Greatway is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature timber framed wooden shiethed or brick construction, which gives form to a very formalized, rational, expence effishent arcatectural style based on strictly symmetrical designs which universaly feature pitched roofs, shutters, and the occasional column or pilaster for a decorative touch.

Greatway is buildings are arranged arrounded highly ordered system of spacious packed earth streets which form hexical paterns, allowing the incides of the octagons to be common grounds for the buildings on the edges, be it for parkland, yardspace, plazas, or markets. The town rests behind the absurdity that is a thick, timber braced, wall made of clay bricks. While visualy impressive and certainly an astetic, Greatway's wall provides no actual defence against siege equipment due to the choice of its cosntruction materials. Even nonexperts can tell the town is trying to impress rather than defend with its walls, towers, and gatehouses. Though admittedly, they do look nice... To primitive tribals who have never seen fortifications before. The political statment focused walls have not been wellmaintained over the years, and while functional are in dire need of some loving care and perhapse light renovation.

A look around Greatway makes it abundantly clear the town suffered something horrible some time ago. It’s a quiet town filled with closed scriptoriums, people quietly yet dejectedly reading in isolated places around town, and the occasional book laying in a heap of garbage.

Civic Infrastructure

Greatway has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Greatway.

Greatway has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.

Greatway has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Greatway has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Greatway's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Greatway has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands.

Greatway has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Cultural Notes

The locals have cut a deal with some unspeakable entity, trading some form of tribute (benign of horrific) in exchange for the being’s forbearance or assistance. Outsiders may be ignorant of the bargain, or they may know that the community is in thrall but be too fearful of its master to take action against them. The creature likely serves as a protector as well as a tyrant, so the locals may be content with the deal even if it doesn’t offer any further inducement or aid.

Greatway's mayor's house was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is known for its buildings being predominantly formed through the combination of basic geometric shapes. However, it shown in the detailing given to the structures such as its characteristic tall columns, intricate detail, symmetry, harmony, and balance in their designs to an astonishing degree of precision. Decorative elements for the buildings tended to be built into the structure itself, making great use of fluting, frescoes, inlays, and embossing.

Due to the actions of local Kami, winter is long in Greatway.

The Azer near Greatway are known to be quite timid.

Greatway's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in spring and involves gestures to channel Mysticism energies of tier 1 via divine sermons.

Economy

The following information was obtained via the Imperial Census Bureau as part of the Eyom Economic Outreach Program. It differs from Standard Imperial censuses in that many of Tom's citizens, regardless of culture, work in more than one occupation or hold more than a single job. History

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the late 2nd century several years of heavy rains culminated in a peculiar disaster. A great hole opened up beneath Greatway, swallowing large sections of the community. Greatway lost 279 people, 121 livestock, and 55 buildings in the disaster. This disaster is often refereed to as The Terror Swallowing.
